New Types of Doubly Periodic Standing Wave Solutions for the Coupled Higgs Field Equation

    Get PDF
Based on the Hirota bilinear method and theta function identities, we obtain a new type of doubly periodic standing wave solutions for a coupled Higgs field equation. The Jacobi elliptic function expression and long wave limits of the periodic solutions are also presented. By selecting appropriate parameter values, we analyze the interaction properties of periodic-periodic waves and periodic-solitary waves by some figures

Integrability and Exact Solutions for a (2+1)-dimensional Variable-Coefficient KdV Equation

By using the WTC method and symbolic computation, we apply the Painlevé test for a (2+1)-dimensional variable-coefficient Kortweg-de Vries (KdV) equation, and the considered equation is found to possess the Painlevé property without any parametric constraints. The auto-Bǎcklund transformation and several types of exact solutions are obtained by using the Painlevé truncated expansion method. Finally, the Hirota’s bilinear form is presented and multi-soliton solutions are also constructed

Half-metallic ferromagnetism and structural stability of zincblende phases of the transition-metal chalcogenides

An accurate density-functional method is used to study systematically half-metallic ferromagnetism and stability of zincblende phases of 3d-transition-metal chalcogenides. The zincblende CrTe, CrSe, and VTe phases are found to be excellent half-metallic ferromagnets with large half-metallic gaps (up to 0.88 eV). They are mechanically stable and approximately 0.31-0.53 eV per formula unit higher in total energy than the corresponding nickel-arsenide ground-state phases, and therefore would be grown epitaxially in the form of films and layers thick enough for spintronic applications.Comment: 4 pages with 4 figures include

Extended Auxiliary Equation Method and Its Applications to Three Generalized NLS Equations

    No full text
The auxiliary equation method proposed by Sirendaoreji is extended to construct new types of elliptic function solutions of nonlinear evolution equations. The effectiveness of the extended method is demonstrated by applications to the RKL model, the generalized derivative NLS equation and the Kundu-Eckhaus equation. Not only are the Jacobian elliptic function solutions are derived, but also the solitary wave solutions and trigonometric function solutions are obtained in a unified way

Exogenous GbHMGS1 Overexpression Improves the Contents of Three Terpenoids in Transgenic Populus

Ginkgo biloba L. has attracted much attention due to its medicinal properties, particularly those of its terpenoid and flavonoid contents. However, the content and utilization efficiency of terpenoids remain low. The enzyme 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl CoA synthase (HMGS) is a major rate-limiting factor, and RNA-seq has revealed that the mRNA expression of this enzyme is differentially expressed during terpenoid biosynthesis. Here, we investigated the function of the GbHMGS1 gene and its overexpression in Populus. We compared the metabolite contents of nontransgenic (CK) Populus with those of transgenic Populus lines through metabolomics analysis. Our results indicate that the GbHMGS1 protein is localized in the cytoplasm. Significant differences in chemical characteristics were found between the transgenic and CK plants, and a total of 31 differentially expressed metabolites were upregulated in the transgenic plants. We also found higher contents of lanosterol (triterpenoid), dehydroabietic acid (diterpenoid), and phytol (diterpenoid) in the transgenic Populus plants than in their CK counterparts. We thus speculate that GbHMGS1 might regulate plant-related product formation and increase metabolite contents. This study revealed the molecular mechanism governing metabolite synthesis and suggested that one triterpenoid and two diterpenoids with significant upregulation can be used as markers for the breeding of plants with specific terpenoid metabolism-related characteristics.Forestry, Faculty ofNon UBCForest and Conservation Sciences, Department ofReviewedFacult
